Willow Rattle Workshop
-
Next Class Date:
September 14, 202512-3 pm
Finnriver Farm & Cidery
Class description:
Come spend the afternoon weaving a willow rattle. This spiral-like, 'corn dolly' weave will mesmerize the maker. Make a rattle for yourself, for a little one in your life, or for life yet to come. Participants will learn some about the willow garden bed that grows at FinnRiver and the rhythms of growing and tending willow for basketry.
We will spend time practicing the weave with softer material before working with the willow. No prior willow weaving experience is necessary, but this weave does ask for a fair amount of hand and finger strength.
Participants are invited to bring 5 or so objects to place inside of your willow rattle - think bells, rocks, shells, special things that will bring magical sound and meaning to your rattle - bigger than a dime and smaller than a nickel that won't shatter when shaken. There will also be objects provided for folks to add so not necessary to bring your own.

Coyote Willow School House
The Coyote Willow School House is an online basketry school and an open doorway for those interested in courting willow and acquiring the skills, resources, and inspiration to make baskets While online learning cannot replace the richness and depth of learning in person, this is still a great way for folks to learn! Our vision is to make weaving more approachable and accessible. We hope that by offering pre-recorded classes we can provide an opportunity for folks to reference the teachings in order to solidify the learning; something that is not possible within the time constraints of in person workshops.
